The Government Says Cannabis Isn’t a Threat—So Why Are We Still Stuck in the Past?
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has finally admitted what cannabis advocates have been saying for decades: weed isn’t as dangerous as the government once claimed.
So if the DEA knows cannabis isn’t a high-risk drug, why does the federal government still classify it as a Schedule I substance—the same category as heroin and LSD?

The answer isn’t science. It’s hypocrisy, politics, and corporate greed.
Let’s break it down.
Science vs. Federal Policy—The Facts Don’t Lie
The DEA Knows the Truth
For years, government agencies resisted acknowledging cannabis’s benefits, but recently, the DEA has had to face the overwhelming evidence.
📌 What changed?
- Medical studies continue to prove that cannabis has medicinal properties.
- States with legal cannabis have seen economic growth and lower opioid overdose rates.
- The DEA itself is now recommending rescheduling cannabis, acknowledging that it doesn’t belong in the same category as heroin.
Yet, here we are in 2024, and weed is still illegal at the federal level. 🤔
Cannabis vs. Legal Drugs: The Double Standard
If cannabis remains federally illegal because it’s “dangerous,” let’s compare it to substances that are perfectly legal:Substance Health Risks Legal Status Alcohol Addiction, liver disease, impaired judgment leading to accidents Legal Tobacco Lung cancer, heart disease Legal Opioids Highly addictive, causes thousands of overdoses annually Prescription Legal Cannabis No recorded overdoses, medical benefits, safer than alcohol Federally Illegal
Make it make sense. 🤷♂️
The Hypocrisy of Drug Scheduling

How Is Cannabis Still a Schedule I Drug?
The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970 classified cannabis as Schedule I, meaning the government considers it to have:
✔️ A high potential for abuse
✔️ No accepted medical use
This classification is based on outdated politics, not science.
Meanwhile, methamphetamine and fentanyl—which are fueling the opioid crisis—are classified as Schedule II, meaning they are considered less dangerous than cannabis.
How does that make any sense?
Who Benefits From Keeping Weed Illegal?
If science isn’t keeping cannabis illegal, then who is?
💰 Big Pharma – Cannabis is a threat to opioid and painkiller sales. The pharmaceutical industry spends millions lobbying against legalization.
🚔 Law Enforcement & Private Prisons – The war on drugs targets cannabis users and fuels the prison-industrial complex.
🏛️ Politicians Playing the Game – Many lawmakers still ignore public opinion and cater to corporate donors instead of voters.
So while everyday Americans are arrested for possession, corporations and politicians profit from prohibition.
This isn’t about safety—it’s about control.
The People Want Legalization—Why Aren’t Lawmakers Listening?

Federal Law vs. State Law: A Mess of Contradictions
- 38 states have legalized medical marijuana.
- 24 states allow recreational use.
- Cannabis businesses are booming, creating billions in tax revenue.
Yet, at the federal level, weed remains illegal.
A business selling cannabis in California is a legal enterprise. The same business in Texas? A federal felony.
And let’s not forget: even in legal states, businesses still can’t use banks because of federal restrictions.
This outdated system is hurting Americans.
The People Have Spoken—So Where’s the Change?
📊 Polls show that over 70% of Americans support legalization.
🚫 Yet Congress continues to stall on meaningful reform.
Even the DEA is admitting the truth now—so why aren’t our elected officials doing their job?
It’s Time to Hold Lawmakers Accountable
The U.S. government is out of excuses. The science is clear, the economy benefits, and the people have spoken.
